The bridge that would link the cities of Makati and Mandaluyong is on track for a 2021 opening date, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Chief Mark Villar said Monday.
“Construction of the new Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge is now in its 78.5 percent completion (stage) and once fully completed, it will be able to accommodate around 50,000 vehicles per day,” Villar said.
The bridge will connect Estrella Street in Makati City and Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City. It is also expected to decongest Guadalupe Bridge along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue.
Its construction, according to DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain, involves the replacement of an old existing steel truss bridge with a pre-stressed concrete rigid frame bridge (with V-shape piers) having a four-lane concrete deck slab of 506.46 lineal meters.
Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge is one of the two grant bridges from the People’s Republic China. The other bridge — Binondo-Intramuros Bridge– will connect Intramuros to Binondo in Manila.
