The victim was identified as Romulo Roto Jr., 25.

Capt. Ramel Bustamante, town police chief, said the victim, who was reportedly drunk, arrived at their house and asked his eldest brother if he can borrow money, until a heated argument ensued between them.

Bustamante said the victim then drew his bolo and allegedly tried to hack his two brothers but they were able to elude the attack.

The victim’s 56-year-old father, Romulo Sr., witnessed the incident and tried to pacify his son, the police chief added.

However, the victim allegedly continued to attack them, prompting his father to get his improvised gas operated rifle locally known as “boga” and allegedly shot the victim, hitting his head, Bustamante said.

The victim fell on the ground, but he took a piece of wood and threw it to his father. Then his father also took another piece of wood and allegedly struck him, hitting his neck which caused his immediate death, Bustamante said.

Police recovered from the scene a 28-inch bolo and the improvised firearm.

Bustamante said the victim usually turns violent whenever he is drunk, and threatens his family and neighbors. “Problema siya (victim) sa lugar even ng family niya,” he added.

Bustamante said the suspect is under police custody and will be facing charges for illegal possession of firearm.

He said they are waiting for the family’s decision if they will be pursuing parricide charges against the suspect.
