Nine in 10 Filipinos agree that roads in Philippine cities and municipalities will be in a better condition if public transportation, bicycles, and pedestrians are given priority over private vehicles, based on a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released late Friday.
The survey conducted on Nov. 21-25, 2020 with 1,500 respondents found 87 percent agreeing and 6 percent disagreeing that private transportation, bikes, and pedestrians will be better off if prioritized over private vehicles.
These translate to a "very strong" net agreement of +81 (percentage of those who agreed minus percentage of those who disagreed).
The SWS terminology for net agreement is as follows, +50 and above (very strong), +30 to +49 (strong), +10 to +29 (moderate), +9 to -9 (neutral), -10 to -29 (poor), -30 to -49 (weak), and -50 and below (very weak).
During the same survey period, SWS found 85 percent of Filipino adults agreeing and 8 percent disagreeing that "it is possible for my city/municipality to become a great place for walking and cycling."
This gives a net agreement score of +77, classified by SWS as "very strong."
The two survey questions about public and alternative forms of transportation were sponsored by the Department of Health.

It is higher in the Visayas (+88) and Metro Manila (+85) compared to Mindanao (+80) and rest of Luzon (+78), and slightly higher in urban areas (+85) than in rural areas (+78).
It is also higher among classes D (+83) and ABC (+82) than among class E (+74), while it is very strong across sex, age group, and educational level, ranging from +74 to +90.
Meanwhile, SWS said net agreement that "it is possible for my city/municipality to become a great place for walking and cycling" is very strong in all basic demographics.
It is higher in the Visayas (+85) and rest of Luzon (+82) than in Metro Manila (+75) and Mindanao (+62).
However, it does not vary in urban (+78) and rural (+76) areas.
By class, it is higher among class ABC (+91) than among classes D (+78) and E (+68).
It is very strong across sex, age group, and educational level, ranging from +69 to +88.
