1st batch of LRT1 Cavite Extension trains arrives

The first batch of the P65 billion LRT- 1 Cavite Extension Project's 120 train cars from Spain and Mexico are now in the country.

After 19 years of delay, the project is turning into reality, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade yesterday announced during the trains' arrival ceremony.

The DOTr expects the project will be partially operable within this year.

“The Duterte administration is making sure that the promises made 19 years ago will truly materialize,” he added.

In mid-2016, the project has achieved nothing in terms of right of way (ROW) although the 2007 Congress has given it a ROW acquisition budget.

Fortunately, this was resolved, and now, the project is more than halfway complete, Tugade confirmed.

And now, the first batch of train cars that will comprise the project's 4th Generation Trains have arrived.

Once complete, the 11.7 kilometer railway line will dramatically shorten travel time from Baclaran to Bacoor, Cavite from 1 hour and 10 minutes to 25 minutes.
