Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has raised his concern over residents who still fail to observe the proper wearing of face masks when outside amidst the ongoing threat of the pandemic.
Sotto said some 500 personnel from the Bantay Pasig Division have been deployed to serve as “force multipliers” and conduct patrols around the city.
This was in addition to members of the local police and barangay security personnel tasked to enforce the minimum health standard protocols to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
However, the mayor lamented that some residents would just let the patrolling officers pass by before going outside and take off their face masks.
“‘Yung iba, pagkadaan nila, lumalabas lang ulit at nagbababa ng face mask (Others residents, after the officers pass by, just come out again and take off their face masks),” Sotto said in a Facebook post Sunday.
“‘Di naman natin kaya bantayan ang bawat street ng 24/7 (We cannot monitor every street 24/7). We will continue to do the best we can. But we all need to do our part,” he added.
The mayor has also voiced his concern over the new COVID-19 variant that is feared to be even more infectious.
He lamented that calls to the emergency hotline of the city have slightly increased since the New Year.
With this, the local chief executive has reminded his constituents not to let their guard down and continue observing health protocols to avoid getting infected with the dreaded disease.
As of January 23, Pasig City has a total 10,219 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Of the total number, 189 are still active cases, 9,615 people have already recovered, while 415 have died.
