TACLOBAN CITY – A farmer, who allegedly raped and killed a 10-year-old girl after she had come to him for help in answering her school module, surrendered to authorities in Calubian, Leyte.
Suspect Marahay, 32, gave himself up to the police on January 21 two days after the rape-slay, according to P/Lt. Col. Bella Rentuaya.
The child’s body was found on January 22 by barangay officials and personnel of the San Isidro Municipal Police Station at a mountainous area in the neighboring town.
Initial investigation disclosed that, at around 11 a.m. on January 19, the victim went to the house of Marahay, looking for his wife who could help her with her school module.
However, the suspect’s wife was at the barangay hall attending a meeting, and only the suspect and their two minor sons were left in the house.
Marahay told his sons to take their cow out to pasture, leaving him and the victim alone in the house.
That was when Marahay said he got the chance to rape the victim. He then brought her to a farm in San Isidro where he killed her using a bolo. It was there that he buried her.
The victim sustained a hack wound to the neck that caused her death.
The Calubian municipal police has requested an autopsy of the victim.
