Gretchen Ho surpasses 'greatest fear'

Gretchen Ho

Everyone experiences fear, and for athlete, TV host Gretchen Ho, it's the fear of the world ending and her losing the ability to buy contact lenses.

This fear of hers led to the decision of undergoing "Lasik surgery" that eventually corrected her abyssmal 625/650 eyesight to a perfect 20/20 vision.

The surgery process was less than an hour long, painless and effective, as she explained on her latest Instagram post:

"Operation done from 625/600, eyesight now 20/20

"FINALLYYYYY. I’ve always wanted to do this but now’s the only time I found time. Had Lasik surgery yesterday with the doctor who operated on my mom’s eyes 20 years ago, Dr. Robert Ang. I felt comfortable and confident, having seen the effects on my mom’s life 20 years later. She was one of the first batches!!

"Honestly didn’t plan this out but my mom told me to go to@asianeyeinstitute, at nandiyan pa pala si Doc!! Galing haha.

"One of the things that assured me was the thorough testing I went through the day before to know if I was eligible for Eye Lasik. They measure all sorts of details about your eye: thickness of cornea, eye pressure, tear production, etc. All these details go through their tech, and once you’ve passed the test, these numbers are what the computer uses to adjust your grade in the operation!

"If you don’t pass the exam, there are two other options: PRK & ICL. Google niyo na lang hahaha!

"Since a lot are asking how it felt, nung una kinakabahan din ako sa operation, but doc was talking to me all throughout! I saw different lights, felt some pressure lang on my eye, but everything was painless! They used anaesthesia drops that were strong enough for me to not feel anything. The whole operation lasted 30minutes. Afterwards, when the anaesthesia wears off, medyo masakit lang ulo, may konting uncomfortability sa mata, pero mawawala din pag tinulog mo na. They use bladeless technology kaya until now, I don’t feel any pain. So amazed with how advanced the tech now is.

"A day after… my eyesight is a lot clearer, still a bit hazy as my eyes are still adjusting, but I already feel so liberated.

"Thank you @asianeyeinstitute for being so professional the whole time and for making sure everybody was #COVID19 safe. The thorough exams reassured me that I was going to get the right diagnosis and prescription from the doctors.

The biggest bonus of all: me addressing my fears that the world would end at maubusan ako ng contact lenses So for those who are thinking of doing lasik, it’s really a worthy investment! Can’t wait til everything gets 100% clear."
