BACOLOD CITY – A woman, who was believed to be pregnant, was killed, while her two companions were wounded, when they were shot at by a relative in Sitio Pantao, Barangay Pandan, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental on Thursday, January 21.
Killed was Ana Oñas, 43, who had just celebrated her birthday two days ago. Wounded were Georgelyn Linigao, 51; and Jesselino Duaban, 55.
According to Ponteverde Deputy Police Chief Lt. Donie Magbanua, the shooting happened when the three victims were on their way home at around 8 p.m.
The shooting incident was reportedly an offshoot of a land dispute between the victims and the gunman, who were all relatives.
Magbanua said that the gunman, identified as 41-year-old Pedro Oñas, reportedly waited in ambush for the victims before he committed the crime.
Ana succumbed to gunshot wounds in the stomach and right leg, while the two other victims sustained a gunshot wound each in the stomach, and were brought to a hospital in La Carlota City. They were later transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.
Magbanua said Pedro was with 39-year-old Nelson Espadera when the incident happened.
Espadera was invited for investigation to determine his participation in the crime.
Police recovered from the scene two fired cartridges of .45 caliber.
Magbanua said Pedro surrendered to the police the following day, and was positively identified by the two wounded victims, who are now in stable condition.
He will be facing murder and two counts of frustrated murder charges.
