CEBU CITY–Police in Central Visayas started the new year with the massive confiscation of illegal drugs.
Data released by the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) showed that from January 1 to 18, a total of 216 anti-illegal drug operations were conducted that led to the arrest of 299 individuals
Seized during the different operations were 3,173.76 grams of shabu with an estimated amount of P21.5 million.
Also seized were 20,600 pieces of nubain ampoules valued at P5,150,000.
Four firearms were confiscated from illegal drug pushers, the PRO 7 said.
“The PRO 7 has pledged to continuously intensify its anti-criminality campaign in Central Visayas amid the pandemic,” Police Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo, chief of PRO 7, said.
In the same period, the PRO 7 recovered 111 loose firearms in the series of operations as part of the” Oplan Katok.”
A total of 104 operations were conducted, leading to the arrest of 26 persons.
Some of the firearms were voluntarily turned over by their owners.
The PRO 7 also stepped up the campaign against wanted persons.
A total of 236 wanted persons were arrested out of the 247 operations that were conducted.
Twelve of the arrested persons were considered “most wanted” in Region 7.
The PRO 7 also conducted 198 illegal gambling operations and arrested 542 persons.
“I commend our men for not ceasing in their sworn duty despite the pandemic,” said Montejo.
