P70-M medicines, cigarettes, other smuggled goods seized in Parañaque


Various smuggled items, including Chinese cigarettes and medicines, worth P70 million were seized in a warehouse in Tambo, Paranaque City, the Bureau of Customs said Wednesday.

Items believed to be smuggled such as Chinese cigarettes, Chinese medicines, prohibited surgical masks, foodstuff, footwear, garments, and other imported goods were found in a warehouse located in Quirino Avenue in Tambo.

According to the the Manila International Container Port (MICP), a team from the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, Enforcement and Security Service, Philippine Coast Guard, and the National Bureau of Investigation inspected the warehouse armed with a letter of authority signed by Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero.

The estimated value of the seized goods is pegged at P 70 million while inventory is under way.

The bureau refused to name the facility and the suspected individuals behind the storing of smuggled goods as investigation is still ongoing for further case build up and filing of charges.
