Ex-brgy chairperson turned NPA militia surrenders to military in Iloilo


ILOILO CITY—A former barangay chairperson has surrendered to authorities after he joined the Milisya ng Bayan, a local military unit of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Iloilo province.

The former village chief known as “Sam” surrendered at the100.1 K3 FM, a radio station in Calinog town, which is managed by the Civil Military Operations Battalion of the Third Infantry Division (3rd ID) earlier this week.  

Sam told officials he was with the NPA militia that was based in Ginbunyogan village.

Based on 3ID records, he is the 310th NPA supporter who surrendered in Panay Island this year.  

There were previous mass surrenders as the Western Visayas Regional Task Force-End Local Communist Armed Conflict (Western Visayas RTF-ELCAC) has been holding peace summits all over Panay Island.

During his surrender to the 12th  Infantry Battalion (12 IB), he also turned over his firearms, including a.38 magnum caliber revolver with five ammunitions; a homemade shotgun with five ammos and magazine; and a homemade M-16 firearm with seven ammos and magazine.
