Lt. Col. Danilo Driz, chief of police of San Jose Municipal Police, said suspect Alfred Mangsat was shot by the police when he tried to shoot it out with his men after announcing his arrest during the transaction.

He said the operation was conducted after his men were able to negotiate with Mangsat for the purchase of shabu. The meeting place was in Barangay Bagong Sikat in San Jose.

At around 5:30 a.m., the buy-bust was carried out, but Mangsat reportedly drew his gun and fired at the policemen when he was about to be arrested. He died on the spot.

Mangsat was among the more or less 6,000 alleged drug personalities who were killed in police operations across the country since July 2016.
