The Muntinlupa City government has been conducting a survey among residents to know if they are willing to get the COVID-19 vaccine, their vaccine brand preference, and reasons for their refusal.

As of January 18, a total of 2,111 residents from Muntinlupa’s nine barangays have answered the survey.

Of the total, 1,137 or 53.86 percent said they are willing to be vaccinated while 227 respondents, or 10.75 percent, said “no” and the remaining 747, or 35.38 percent, did not answer and were classified as “unaccounted.”

Of the 1,137 residents who said “yes” to the vaccination, 618 or 54.35 percent, chose the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine while 373 or 32.8 percent preferred the AstraZeneca vaccine. Respondents who chose other brand brands are: Moderna, 18 (1.58 percent); Sinovac, 14 (1.23 percent); Sputnik V, 7 (0.6 percent); Johnson & Johnson, 2 (0.17 percent); and either of the above (vaccines), 65 (5.71 percent). Others did not indicate their preference.

Among the 227 who refused to be vaccinated, the No. 1 reason was ”side effects that may be experienced,” which had 175; followed by “doubtful with the efficiency rate of the vaccine,” 140; “fee of vaccination,” 66; “conflict with current health condition,” 34; and “others,” 5. Some of the respondents gave multiple answers, which resulted in the total tally for the reasons exceeding the total number of respondents.

Of the 2,111 respondents, 1,283, or 61 percent, are female; 793, or 38 percent, are male; and 35, or 2 percent, preferred not to reveal their gender.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi earlier announced the city government will allot P170 million for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines.

He signed a tripartite agreement to purchase an initial 100,000 doses from AstraZeneca and requested to buy an additional 200,000 doses from the firm for a total of 300,000 doses.
