Korean-American singer and "American Idol" Season 9 contestant John Park has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Park’s Korean agency Music Farm made the announcement on Jan. 18 and said he was confirmed to have COVID-19 on Jan. 15.

It said the 32-year-old singer “is asymptomatic and is currently admitted in a quarantine facility based on the guidelines of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.” Staff who have been in contact with him are being tested.

He became a contestant in the ninth season of “American Idol” in 2010 and placed in the top 20. He went to South Korea to join the TV singing competition “Superstar K2” and finished second place behind Huh Gak in the finale in October 2010.

Park went on to launch his career in South Korea and won the best new male solo artist at the 2nd Gaon Chart K-pop Awards in 2012.

Last year, nine singers in Korea tested positive for COVID-19. They were Golden Child member Bong Jaehyun, UP10TION’s Xiao, Bitto and Kogyeol, Chungha, trot singer Lee Chan-won, Everglow’s Yiren and Sihyeon, and Supernova’s Yoonhak.
