One person was killed while at least 70 where arrested in CARAGA region as police forces stepped up their campaign against criminal elements and suspected members of the New People’s Army through the implementation of search warrants.
Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the simultaneous day-long operation also resulted in the confiscation of 107 handguns and long firearms in various parts of the region.
“The police are ensuring the public’s safety by taking away loose firearms in the hands of criminal elements, threat groups and unauthorized individuals,” said Sinas.
Sinas said at least one person died while 70 others were arrested. Those arrested are now facing criminal charges.
Among those confiscated, according to Sinas, were a 5.56mm Galil rifle, two 9mm KG-9 submachine guns, one caliber .30 carbine; 32 caliber.45 pistols, three 9mm pistols, 54 caliber.38 revolvers, one caliber.22 rifle, and 13 shotguns.
Some of the 82 search warrants, according to Sinas, were also focused on known supporters and affiliates of communist rebels in support of “whole of nation” efforts against communist insurgency by the government.
CARAGA region is a known operational area of the New People’s Army in Mindanao.
