Several showbiz personalities expressed dissatisfaction over the price of Sinovac, the government’s vaccine of choice against COVID-19.
Richard Juan, a Chinese model, actor and host who gained huge notice via “Eat Bulaga’s” “You’re My Foreignoy” contest, believes it is too much.
To bolster his point, he took to Twitter to repost the price of the vaccine in other countries citing India Today and The Jakarta Post.
Based on the data he shared, Sinovac is priced at merely RS 1027 (P674.79) per dose in India; and IDR 200,000 (P682.85) in Indonesia.
He then computed the total cost of 2 doses of Sinovac here at P3, 629.50.
He then asked, “Bakit kaya THREE times more expensive Sinovac natin? Mahal ba shipping? Or may kick vac?”
Among those who reacted to his post is actor Enchong Dee, who wrote: “Grabeng kasamaan na to!!!”
Meanwhile, actor Albie Casiño, posted a photo of Carlito Galvez, Chief Implementer of the Philippines’ Declared National Policy Against COVID-19 (COVID-19 National Task Force) along with the quote: “Gov’t chose Sinovac because it’s cheaper than other brands.”
He said: “Bobohan na po.”
Note the government has signed a deal for 25 million doses of Sinovac.
It is expected to deploy the China-made vaccine soon despite ongoing concerns over its efficacy.
Data released from a trial in Brazil suggested its efficacy was 50.4% – lower than previously thought and only just above the requirement set by the World Health Organization (WHO).
