In a Facebook post, the Kilusang Mayo Uno said that its chairperson, Elmer Labog, and secretary for human rights, Eleanor de Guzman, met with Labor Secretary Silvestro Bello III.

They raised concerns over the alleged surveillance of the KMU headquarters in Quezon City, where a tinted van was going around its vicinity on Tuesday morning and a police mobile made the rounds at 4 p.m. of the same day.

The group submitted a list of incidents to the department, which promised to call the attention of the Quezon City Police Department and the Philippine National Police in Cabuyao over the issues.

“The group made these steps to stop the intimidation on legitimate groups like the KMU. These strategies to intimidate the group should not work to silence the fight of the people against poverty and injustices,” KMU said in Filipino.

Over the week, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) inspected the group’s headquarters upon the request of KMU. This is to prove that it is allegedly housing members of the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).

The group allowed the CHR to inspect the rooms, cabinets, and boxes. Village personnel were also there during the inspection. The CHR found no ammunition or explosives.
