The iconic manga character with the brand’s signature GG motif, we are sold!
In celebration of the famous robot cat’s 50th anniversary, Italian fashion house Gucci launched a capsule collection in collaboration with Japanese manga character Doraemon.
The Gucci x Doraemon line debuted in the 12-hour-long virtual 2021 resort wear Epilogue collection show of the brand last July, bringing nostalgia to fans everywhere.
Created by Fujiko Fujio, the Japanese manga was first introduced in the ’70s with an earless and time traveling cat as its prime character. Soon enough, Doraemon hit the animation drawing board and gained fans in and outside Japan, which included Filipino kids in the ’90s.
“Born on September 3rd, 2112, a cat-type robot was sent from the 22nd century to help a young boy called Nobita with secret gadgets from his four-dimensional pouch,” the brand said. “A playful character, Doraemon hates mice and loves Dorayaki, a sweet pancake.”
The collection features 50 pieces, from track pants, shirts, and jackets to sunglasses, bags, and sneakers, all imbued with the images of the iconic blue jovial mechanical feline with Gucci’s signature GG motif.
The Gucci x Doraemon Epilogue collection follows the many successful collaborations of the luxury house, which include The North Face, Donald Duck, and Mickey Mouse.
