Best defense vs. new COVID-19 viral strain: follow health protocols


The Department of Health (DOH) reminded the public anew to follow the health protocols amid the threat of the new COVID-19 virus variant.

“Mayroon mang mga bagong variants ng COVID-19, maiiwasan pa rin ang pagkalat nito sa striktong pagsunod sa ating minimum public health standards. Paigtingin natin ang wastong paggamit ng face masks at face shields, physical distancing at malimit na paghugas ng kamay ,” it said. 

The number of confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines rose to 494,605 after the Department of Health (DOH) detected 1,912 new infections. 

The DOH said that of the overall tally, 25,614 are active cases or those who are still ill. Of these, 85 percent have mild symptoms, 6.4 percent are asymptomatic, 5.2 percent are in critical condition, 2.9 percent are severe, while 0.48 percent are in moderate condition. 

Davao City reported the highest number of new cases with 136. It was followed by Quezon City with 107, Agusan Del Sur with 61, Dagupan City with 57, and Cavite with 54. 

The department also recorded 746 new COVID-19 survivors, bringing the total to 459,252 recoveries. 

Meanwhile, the death count increased  to 9,739 with 40 more fatalities.

“Five duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, three were recovered cases. In addition, two cases were found to have tested negative and have been removed from the total case count,” it noted.
