MV Manoling 2, a cargo and passenger vessel, ran aground Tuesday  due to rough seas.

It was carrying 25 crew members, 53 passengers, and 22 rolling cargoes.

According to Capt. Eduardo Morales, master of the vessel, they departed Port of Isabel in Leyte enroute to Dunggoan Wharf in Cebu.

“While underway, MV Manoling 2 was battered by high waves and strong current, causing it to drift to a shallow vicinity water where it ran aground,” the Coast Guard said.

Morales was able to immediately seek assistance from the Coast Guard to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew. They were later ferried to Port of Danao.

No one was reported injured, the Coast Guard said.

It added that eventually, a private tug boat was hired to tow the distressed vessel to the nearest shoreline for appropriate assistance.
