Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Tuesday urged the public to trust medical experts when it comes to vaccines against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after a recent Pulse Asia survey showed that only five in 10 Filipinos are willing to get coronavirus shots.
“Alam natin napakaimportante nitong bakuna. We know that this vaccine is very important. COVID-19 will vanish without a vaccine, but of course it will take a long time, so it’s better to inoculate more people),” Sotto said in an interview over Teleradyo.
While vaccination fears are normal, Sotto is still encouraging the public to trust the medical experts who have been studying and researching about the vaccines.
A lot of people fear being inoculated. That is normal because the vaccines are still relatively new. I encourage every citizen, every Pasigueño, every Filipino to trust the experts who are studying and researching about the COVID-19 vaccines),” Sotto urged.
“Kung wala pong bakuna, e di napakarami pa ring may polio. Kung walang bakuna, napakarami pa ring may tigdas. Nabawasan po yung bilang nang may polio, tigdas, at iba pang sakit dahil sa bakuna (If there is no vaccine, a lot of people still suffer from polio. If there is no vaccine, a lot of people will suffer from measles. Vaccines have reduced the number of people suffering from polio, measles, and other diseases),” he added.
Sotto reiterated that vaccines are safe and effective as long as it has passed the scrutiny of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA).
We are assured that vaccines approved by the FDA are safe and effective).”
Pasig City is securing 400,000 COVID-19 vaccines from AstraZeneca, enough to inoculate 200,000 residents.
