Delivery rider’s instinct leads to discovery of illegal drugs

A door-to-door delivery rider’s insistence to double-check a client’s package led to the discovery of P3.4-million worth of illegal drugs in a kitchen-type laboratory in Cainta, Rizal on Thursday.

In Friday’s report over ABS-CBN Teleradyo, the rider whose identity was withheld said his male client rejected his insistence to check the items first before being delivered in a hotel in Manila.

Trusting his instincts, at around 1 p.m. the rider who got the item chanced upon a police officer nearby and had the package inspected where the illegal drugs were discovered.

The Cainta Police immediately called the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group (DEG) where an operation was conducted inside the rented residence of the male suspect at Cabisig St. Barangay San Andres.

The anti-narcotics operatives said the suspect had already left the place but his live-in partner was nabbed when the raid was conducted.

Investigators revealed that the live-in partner said that the male suspect is a Filipino-American who was deported to the country for illegal drug cases in the United States.

PDEA-National Capital Region (NCR) Director Adrian Alverino said that it is highly possible that the place is used to “repair’’ shabu and make party drugs.

A PDEA inventory disclosed that bottles of chemicals used to make illegal drugs, 2,000 pieces of party drugs, one kilo of shabu and 10 packs of high-grade marijuana were seized inside the makeshift illegal drug laboratory.

Authorities commended the rider for his quick thinking and appropriate decision making as he stands to receive an undisclosed amount of reward for his good deed.
