Twitter locks US President Trump's account

Early today Twitter locks US President Donald Trump's account after deleting three tweets that involve "repeated and severe violations" of their civic integrity policy. Twitter said the account faces permanent suspension if the violations continue. For now, the account will locked for 12 hours.

"As a result of the unprecedented and ongoing violent situation in Washington, D.C.," Twitter's own tweet started, "we have required the removal of three @realDonalTrump Tweets that were posted earlier today for repeated and severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy."

Additional Twitter tweets followed, including: "Future violations of the Twitter Rules, including our Civic Integrity or Violent Threat policies, will result in permanent suspension of the @realDonalTrump account."

In one of his tweets, Trump was vocal about his feelings with his own vice president, Mike Pence, saying: "Mike Pence didn't have the courage to do what should have been done to protect Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!"

Trump is to step down as President-elect Joe Biden is sworn into office. Trump's tweets on how the election was stolen has ignited his most loyal supporters to take action.

Earlier today, in what social media and US media outlets call a "coup" and an "insurrection," pro-Trump protesters stormed the US Capitol with threats and violence. This forced an evacuation of its lawmakers and, according to a US-based media outlet, caused the death of one woman from a shooting.
