“General Danny Lim was a very worthy, noble brother. He will create a [vacuum] in the corridors of noble men,” Senate President Vicente Sotto III said of the late MMDA head.

“I am just consoled that he will now rest with the Great Architect Of The Universe! Rest in peace, worthy brother!” he added.

Former MMDA chairman and Sen. Francis “Tol” Tolentino said he also joins the Philippine Army and MMDA in mourning the loss of Lim, who he called a “good friend” and “a competent administrator who led with core principles.” Sen. Nancy Binay also thanked Lim for his service to the country.

Sen. Sonny Angara, for his part, reminded the public about the persisting threat of the  COVID-19 pandemic in the country. “Rest in peace MMDA Chairman Danny Lim,” he posted on Twitter.

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri also mourned Lim’s passing, describing him as a “hardworking, no-frills” public servant.

“Gen. Danny Lim was a distinguished soldier at the Special Operations Command (SOCOM), Phil Army and, was the Commanding General of the First Scout Ranger Regiment, a major unit of SOCOM,” Zubiri recalled.

“He served his country well both in protecting our people from external and internal threats as well as a low-key hardworking bureaucrat in government serving the needs of the people of Metro Manila.”

“Our deepest deepest condolences to his family and to the MMDA organization,” he continued.

Senator Panfilo Lacson also expressed his grief over the retired general’s death.

“Two great warriors left for the afterlife, leaving their comrades-in-arms in grief. [Philippine Air Force] Col. Tito Legaspi, PMA Class 1971 and [Philippine Army] BGen Danny Lim, USMA Class 1978 were both bold and daring revolutionaries who fought for reforms, both in the AFP and the country,” he said.

Sen. Risa Hontiveros also said Lim’s “energy [and] life-long dedication is an inspiration to all officers [and] civil servants.”

“He was a brave soldier, who was admired for his great love of country, and I was fortunate enough to have fought beside Gen Danny in many battles in Philippine politics,” she tweeted, also extending her prayers and condolences to Lim’s loved ones.

Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, meanwhile, cited Lim’s service in the MMDA and the policies he implemented amid the persisting COVID-19 pandemic.

“He led the MMDA, one of the agencies working in the frontlines amid the pandemic, with wisdom and foresight, despite all the traffic and transport challenges. His contributions in implementing COVID-19 related policies and rules cannot be disregarded,” Gatchalian said in his statement.

“He also served as Deputy Customs Commissioner for intelligence under the term of President Noynoy Aquino,” he also noted.

“I am one with the nation in condoling with the family on the sudden passing of Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Danilo Lim…Chairman Lim’s passing is a great loss to public service,” he added.

In a statement, the MMDA said Lim, aged 65, passed away due to cardiac arrest on Wednesday morning.

Last December 29, Lim disclosed that he tested positive for COVID-19 but said then that his symptoms were mild. MMDA Spokesperson Celine Pialago said Lim was recovering from the disease when he passed away.
