DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista said around 886 centenarians received their P100,000 cash reward as provided under the Centenarians Act of 2016.

“The Department has recognized and awarded a total of 886 centenarians for 2020,” he said.

He explained that under Republic Act No. 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016, all Filipinos who have reached 100 years old and above, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, will be given a centenarian gift amounting to P100,000 and a letter of felicitation signed by the President of the Philippines.

In June last year, the DSWD said a total of 952 centenarians were expected to receive their entitled cash gift as provided under the law.

From 2016 to 2019, a total of 5,609 centenarians nationwide have received their cash gift amounting to P560.9 million, the Department said.

Last year, due to COVID-19 pandemic crisis, the DSWD adopted a house-to-house delivery scheme for the cash gifts intended for the centenarians “in cognizance of their health and physical limitations.”
