UPLB innovates engineering solutions to expand hospitals' capacity

(Photo courtesy of UPLB) (Photo courtesy of UPLB) The committee is fabricating ventilator splitters, ventilator parts, intubation boxes, and a mechanized, no-contact decontamination chamber that allows the reuse of personal protective equipment. "Also soon to be finished is a mobile no-contact swabbing booth equipped with a notification app for pre-, during, and post testing of patients, a data management system, and a temporary storage for the swab samples," UPLB said in a statement. The committee also fabricated and distributed face shield and ear guards to hospital and healthcare workers. Ear guards are used to prevent irritation caused by wearing masks over long stretches of time. The committee is one of the seven committees created under the university's Task Force Laban Ng Bayan Kontra COVID-19, that aims to provide assistance in the country's effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
