GUMACA, Quezon – Local government disaster and engineering personnel have already cleared the national road in Barangay Hagakhakin here of boulders, according to Mayor Webster Letargo.
Letargo said that the Kalasag-Gumaca Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and the Municipal Engineering Office (MEO) conducted the clearing operation early morning of Wednesday, December 31.
A landslide had earlier occurred at a hilly portion of Maharlika road in Barangay Hagakhakin that blocked traffic heading to and from the Bicol region.
Although the road was already cleared, Letargo reminded the drivers of all types of vehicles to still be cautious while traversing the dangerous stretch.
He said heavy rains could still send boulders and other debris crumbling back on the road.
Residents here said it was the first time that a landslide occurred in the area.
