“What a year it has been,” Sotto said Monday. “As we near the end of 2020, let us welcome the New Year with a spirit full of faith and hope. Surely, 2021 will be a much better year for us all!”

Filipinos have gone through a lot of difficult challenges and problems this 2020—starting from the Taal eruption in January up to the ongoing threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“Pero sa gitna ng maraming pagsubok, pinakita nating mga Pasigueño kung gaano tayo katatag bilang isang lungsod (But in the midst of many trials, we Pasigueños showed how strong we are as a city,” Sotto said.

“Pinakita natin ang kagitingan, ang ating katapangan, at malasakit sa kapwa (We showed our courage, bravery, and concern for others,” he added.

The mayor noted various acts of heroism this pandemic—from the healthcare workers in the frontline treating patients infected with the new coronavirus to peace and order personnel enforcing quarantine protocols in the community.

“At mga ordinaryong individual, ordinaryong mamayang Pasigueño na tumulong, nagdonate, at nagvolunteer (And ordinary individuals, ordinary residents of Pasig who helped, donated, and volunteered,” he said.

This New Year, Sotto hopes that 2021 will be a better year for everyone.

“Sa dami ng pagsubok natin, siguro naka quota na tayo para sa susunod na sampung taon na mga problema (With the many trials we have faced this year, maybe we have reached our quota in the number of problems we have to face in the next 10 years,” he said.

Likewise, the mayor has urged his constituents to continue helping each other in the coming year.

“Salubongin natin ang bagong taon na buhay na buhay ang pag-asa sa ating mga puso (Let us welcome the New Year with hope in our hearts),” Sotto said.
