Two Low Pressure Areas to bring rains in huge part of PH

Rains will continue to affect a huge part of the archipelago due to the prevalence of two low pressure areas (LPAs) on Sunday.

(PAGASA / MANILA BULLETIN)

As of 10 a.m. Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the locations of the LPA at 80 kilometers (km) west of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, and 85 km east of Legazpi City, Albay.

PAGASA said both weather disturbances remain less likely to develop into a tropical depression within 24 hours.

However, due to improvements in the cloud system of the LPAs over the past 12 hours, the likelihood of tropical cyclone formation is not ruled out at this time, the State weather bureau noted.

This Sunday, moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Masbate, Biliran, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Quezon, Aurora, Bulacan, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Dinagat Islands, Calamian Islands, and Kalayaan Islands.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains may also affect Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Metro Manila, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and the rest of Palawan and Visayas.

By Monday, moderate to heavy rains may persist in Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, northern portions of Apayao and Ilocos Norte, and Aurora.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains may still affect Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Kalayaan Islands, Batanes, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Bulacan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Nueva Ecija, and the rest of Apayao.

PAGASA warned of possible flooding, including flash floods, and rain-induced landslides that may occur during heavy or prolonged periods of rainfall, especially in areas that are highly susceptible to these hazards.

Other areas that received significant antecedent rainfall over the past couple of days or weeks were also advised to take precautionary measures in case flooding or landslides occur due to these weather disturbances.

Likewise, adjacent or nearby areas that may not have been directly affected by the rainfall were urged to remain alert due to the possibility of flooding from surface runoff or swelling of river channels.

PAGASA said the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

It advised the public to take necessary precautionary measures against possible flash floods or landslides in the event of severe thunderstorm activity.
