Another debatable love triangle? Cameos? Definitely no spoilers here.
On Dec. 9, Korean cable television channel tvN aired the first episode of True Beauty (Korean Title: 여신강림 / Yeongshingarim) starring Mun Ka Young and Cha Eun Woo, and it’s been the talk of the town of K-drama fans in Korea and all over the world.
True Beauty is a Korean drama about a high school student named Im Ju-Kyung (played by SM Entertainment’s Mun Ka Young) who has always been so conscious about her bare face since she was little. In the drama, Ju-Kyung’s makeup skills are highlighted, which in turn makes her really pretty in front of others. Though we’re not here to spoil anything else, things get a lot spicier when she gets involved with Lee Soo-Ho (played by Fantasio’s Cha Eun Woo) and Han Seo-Jun (played by Keyeast Entertainment’s Hwang In-Yeop).
The plot for this drama is quite relatable for many Koreans and Filipinos. Though it is the trend nowadays to showcase your inner true beauty, it is a known fact that, at one point or another, we all have our days of just wanting to touch up and show a better side of our face to others.
Fans of the original webtoon where the drama was based were also chuffed that the show is accurate to the story and gave a more interesting execution of it on TV.
SM Entertainment released a press statement on Dec. 18 saying how “it is with no exaggeration for fans to say” that Im Ju Kyung’s character seems like “it was made specifically for Mun Ka Young.”
For the two lads in this love triangle drama, social media has gone mad wild over the rivalry between Cha Eun Woo and Hwang In Yeop. There currently stands a True Beauty Rambolan: Team Seo Jun vs. Team Soo Ho Facebook group consisting of over 15,000 members from the Philippines. The last time we’ve seen a group of this scale was when Start-Up was trending on Facebook and Twitter, between Nam Do San and Mr. Han.
There are also some cameos to watch out for in this drama. So far, Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol’s Lee Jae Wook and Sky Castle’s Kim Hye Yoon have made their cameos interacting with Cha Eun Woo, and we’re expecting possibly a few more big names showing up in the series.
There’s so much more to say about the drama, but the thrill of it all is while watching the hour long episodes. The series is still ongoing, with new episodes on tvN in Korea every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 p.m. KST.
