With many families celebrating Christmas and New Year apart this year, Zoom has allowed unlimited call time between Dec. 23 and Dec. 26 and Dec. 30 and Jan. 2.

The videoconferencing platform announced that it will be lifting the 40-minute limit for free calls during the holiday season.

“COVID-19 has changed how we live, work, and celebrate in 2020, and like everything else this year, the holiday season doesn’t look the same. As a token of appreciation to our users during an extraordinary time, we’re removing the 40-minute limit on free Zoom accounts for all meetings globally for several special occasions,” it said.

Zoom has proved an essential technology amid the COVID-19 pandemic for work, schools, and families to connect with one another as the virus forced people to stay at home and away from mass gatherings.

“We’re proud to have been part of your lives in 2020 and wish everyone and healthy holiday season!” Zoom added.

Starting Dec. 23, free accounts around the world will be able to enjoy unlimited calling with no time limit, until Saturday, Dec. 26 at 6 a.m. Eastern Time (ET).

Unlimited group calls will also be available from 10 a.m. ET on Dec. 30 to Jan. 2 at 6 a.m. (ET).

The US-based company said there is no action needed from users to get the time limit lifted.
