Gallup survey reveals favorite singers in Korea who shined in 2020

Gallup Korea has revealed the results of its annual survey selected by the public for the favorite singers in Korea who shined in 2020.

The polling firm conducted surveys among 5,100 respondents aged 13 and above all over Korea except Jeju three times this year from July 2 to 22, Sept. 17 to Oct. 20, and Nov. 5 to 29, and asked them to name their favorite singers who shined this year.

The survey results were divided this year into two categories: those in the 13 to 39 age group and 40 and above age group.

BTS became the No. 1 favorite singer among the 13 to 39 age group while trot singer Lim Young-woong is No. 1 among the 40 and above age group.

The respondents in the 13-39 age group chose BTS as the No. 1 top singer in 2020, garnering 39.2 percent. This is BTS’ third straight year to top the survey following 2018 and 2019. They tied the record of Girls’ Generation, which topped the survey three times in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

In 2007 and 2008, the No. 1 ranking went to Wonder Girls followed by Girls’ Generation from 2009 to 2011, Psy in 2012, Cho Yong-pil in 2013, IU in 2014, Big Bang in 2015, Im Chang-jung in 2016 and IU in 2017.

The top 10 favorite singers in 2020 among the 13-39 age group are:

  1. BTS – 39.2 percent
  2. IU – 21.1 percent
  3. BLACKPINK – 13.6 percent
  4. Trot singer Lim Young-woong – 10.8
  5. TWICE – 7.8 percent
  6. Trot singer Young Tak – 7.7 percent
  7. Zico – 5.7 percent
  8. Red Velvet – 4.8 percent
  9. Mamamoo’s Hwasa – 4.3 percent
  10. Paul Kim – 4.1 percent

Other singers in the 2020 ranking are Mamamoo, 4 percent, Jung Dong-won and Oh My Girl, 3.9 percent; Lee Chan-won, 3.2 percent; Jessi, 3 percent; Jang Beom-june, 2.9 percent;, Im Chang-jung, 2.7 percent; EXO, 2.6 percent; Jang Yoon-jeong, 2.5 percent, Kim Ho-joong, 2.3; and Park Hyo-shin, 2 percent.

In 2019, the top 10 singers chosen in the same survey were BTS, 26.3 percent; Song Ga-in, 18.5 percent; Jang Yoon-jeong, 11.6 percent; IU, 11.5 percent; Hong Jin-young, 9 percent; TWICE, 8.4 percent; Paul Kim, 5.4 percent; Red Velvet, 4.6 percent; Kim Yonja, 4.2 percent; and Im Chang-jung, 4.1 percent

On the other hand, the top 10 favorite singers in 2020 among the 40 and above age group are:

  1. Lim Young-woong – 36.9 percent
  2. Young Tak – 21.1 percent
  3. Na Hoon-a – 17.2 percent
  4. Jang Yoon-jeong – 12.8 percent
  5. Jin Sung – 12.1 percent
  6. Jung Dong-won and Lee Chan-won (tied) – 10.4 percent
  7. Kim Ho-joong – 10 percent
  8. Song Ga-in – 8.6 percent
  9. BTS – 8.3 percent
