PCG reminds maritime stakeholders to follow rules

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reminds passengers, motorbanca operators, and other maritime stakeholders to follow sea travel suspension and safety advisories during heavy weather to prevent the occurrence of maritime accidents.

This, following a recent maritime incident in Albay where a privately-owned motorbanca hired for public transport submerged due to strong winds and big waves off Sitio Moroboron, Barangay Misibis in Bacacay, Albay due to tropical depression Vicky. 

The motorbanca departed from Brgy. Poblacion in Rapu-Rapu, Albay yesterday with 16 passengers and crewmen on board. 

Personnel of the Coast Guard Station Albay were able to rescue all passengers and crew and brought them to the nearest shoreline while those who suffered minor injuries were provided with immediate medical assistance.

The Coast Guard Station Albay, together with the involved individuals, will continue the investigation about the maritime incident tomorrow, Dec. 21.
