TD Vicky causes road closures, flooding in Leyte provinces


TACLOBAN CITY - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Field Office 8 has announced the closure of some routes going to Southern Leyte on Saturday December 19.

Tacloban-Baybay South Road K0985+200 in Brgy. Cuatro De Agosto, Mahaplag, Leyte, has been totally closed due to a road cut brought about by incessant rainfall brought by tropical depression Vicky.

It also caused a landslide that killed two elderly women and injured two individuals.

Abuyog - Silago Road was also rendered impassable after the Panalian Bridge Detour was swamped with floodwater, according to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Silago, Southern Leyte.

Mahaplag - Sogod road was also closed due to a damaged bridge near Barangay Pulahongon.

The traveling public may use Palo-Carigara-Ormoc Road as an alternative route.

Meanwhile, some parts of Leyte, particularly the municipalities of Dulag, Mayorga, and MacArthur, were reported to have experienced flooding in houses and highways.
