K-pop boy band Golden Child’s Jaehyun tests positive for COVID-19

K-pop boy band Golden Child member Bong Jaehyun, 21, tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Dec. 17 as the virus continues to sweep the Korean music industry.

The band’s agency, Woollim Entertainment, made the announcement, saying that Jaehyun underwent testing on Dec. 16 and was confirmed to have the virus in the morning of Dec. 17.

It said Jaehyun did not do any outside activities except for his filming schedule. Filming-related staff, who may have encountered Jaehyun, have undergone testing.

Jaehyun is asymptomatic and will be in self-isolation according to the guidelines of health authorities, Woollim added.

After his COVID-19 diagnosis was confirmed, the entire building of Woollim Entertainment and Golden Child’s dorm were disinfected. Other members of Golden Child and agency employees have undergone testing and are now in self-quarantine.

Jaehyun is the ninth Korean singer to test positive for COVID-19. Those who previously contracted the virus were UP10TION’s Xiao, Bitto and Kogyeol, Chungha, trot singer Lee Chan-won, Everglow’s Yiren and Sihyeon, and Supernova’s Yoonhak.

Golden Child made their comeback last October with the single album “Pump It Up.”
