Yoon Ji-sung, the former leader of the defunct K-pop boy band Wanna One, was officially discharged from his military service on Dec. 13.

The 29-year-old K-pop artist enlisted in the military on May 14, 2019 and served as an active duty soldier for 19 months.

Last Nov. 20, his agency, LM Entertainment, announced that Yoon Ji-sung took his last vacation from his military service and would be discharged on Dec. 13 without returning to his military base as a preventive measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Upon discharge, Yoon Ji-sung posted a letter on his official fan cafe, saying, "I learned a lot of things during the service. I also had some difficult and lonely times, but I was able to overcome the period with your love and support. From now on, let's not get separated and stay together," according to the Korea Times.

As a soldier, he also served in the military band and participated in the Army musical “Return: The Promise of the day,” which was staged to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War.

Yoon Ji-sung became a contestant on the survival audition TV show “Produce 101” Season 2, which started airing in April 2017. He placed eight in the finale and became a member and leader of boy band Wanna One that debuted on Aug. 7, 2017.

After Wanna One was disbanded, Yoon Ji-sung debuted as a solo artist, releasing the mini-album “Aside” in February 2019 followed by “Dear Diary” in April 2019 just before his enlistment. He released the song “Winter, Flower” after he enlisted.
Following his discharge, he will hold his online fan meeting "Christmas Story" on Dec. 25.
