Caraga region registers 52 new COVID-19 cases


BUTUAN CITY - The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Northeastern Mindanao or Caraga region continues to rise with 64 new cases recorded, with Agusan del Sur province posting its highest positive cases.

Based on the COVID-19 Regional Case Bulletin released by the Department of Health-Center for Health and Development (DOH-CHD), 35 new cases were recorded in Agusan del Sur, six in Surigao del Sur, six in Butuan City, three in Tandag City, and two in the Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI).

Caraga region now has a total of 3, 961 confirmed cases, 406 of which are active, and 184 deaths.

The DOH-CHD also reported on Tuesday that Caraga region has also recorded 3,371 recoveries.

Of the new cases, the DOH-CHD said one is severe, 13 have mild symptoms, and 38 are asymptomatic.

Twelve were all local transmission cases, 36 with no history of travel to an area with known local transmission  or exposure to COVID-19, and four with travel history from an area with local transmission.

Among those infected, 30 were female, 22 were male, with the youngest at 2-years-old and the oldest at 96-years-old.

Since the start of the pandemic, a total of 307 locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and 64 returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) have already contracted the virus in the region. 

Agusan del Sur Gov. Santiago B. Cane, Jr. appealed to all Agusanons to take seriously all health protocols to avert the spread of the dreaded virus.

“Health protocols must be thoroughly adhered to to stop the spread of this virus,” he said.
