64 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Caraga region


BUTUAN CITY - The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Northeastern Mindanao or Caraga region continued to increase with 64 new cases recorded, along with three additional deaths.

Based on the COVID-19 Regional Case Bulletin released by the Department of Health-Center for Health and Development (DOH-CHD), 34 new cases were recorded in Agusan del Sur, 16 in the Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI), four in Surigao del Sur, three in Surigao del Norte (Dapa), three in Butuan City, and two each in the cities of Bayugan and Tandag.

Caraga region now has a total of 3, 883 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 448 active cases and 183 deaths.

The DOH-CHD also reported on late Saturday afternoon that Caraga region has also recorded 3,252 recoveries.

According to the medical status of the new COVID-19 patients, DOH-CHD said three were severe, 12 have mild symptoms, while 49 were asymptomatic.

Among the latest cases, 40 were all local transmission cases, 19 with no history of travel to an area with known local transmission or exposure to COVID-19, and five with travel history from an area with local transmission.

Among those infected, 34 were male, 30 were male, with the youngest at 5-years old and the oldest, at 86-years-old.

Since the start of the pandemic, a total of 307 locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and 64 returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) have already contracted the virus in the region. 

In a another development, the provincial government of Surigao del Norte has received P9.5 million worth of hospital grade personal protective equipment (PPE) from the DOH and the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), which would be distributed to all the COVID-19 front-liners in the province.
