In a statement made on Saturday, Dec. 5, Lieutenant Colonel Aristedes Galang, PAF spokesperson, said the procurement was part of the PAF Aviation Engineering Equipment (PAFAEE) Acquisition Project, which was funded under the Revised AFP Modernization Program.

Lt. Gen. Allen Paredes, PAF Commanding General, presided over the joint acceptance and blessing ceremony held at the Basa Air Base in Floridablanca, Pampanga last Dec. 2.

The PAF Chief was accompanied by senior PAF officers led by Brig. Gen. George Blanco, Wing Commander of the 355th Aviation Engineer Wing, the unit intended to receive the said equipment.

During the ceremonies, the PAF received 12 tracked excavators, eight self-loading cement mixers, 17 tandem drum road rollers, six equipment haulers, nine multi-purpose and wrecker trucks, four hydrostatic bulldozers, and a compact backhoe loader.

The bidding for the vehicles and engineering equipment was completed in 2019. Five more equipment are set to be delivered before 2020 ends under the PAFAEE Acquisition Project after it faced delays due to financial issues amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Galang said that the equipment will be deployed in strategic locations across the country to rapidly respond to the engineering requirements of various military units.

Further, he noted that the equipment can also be utilized to assist local government units in their infrastructure projects, and during disaster relief and rehabilitation operations.

This may be crucial in the coming weeks as various military engineering units were involved in clearing and rehabilitation operations in areas that were recently hit by powerful storms since October.

“The said equipment will perform its mission of providing engineering support to the PAF and contribute to the national development programs of the government,” Galang added.
