Qatar has donated more than 40 tons of food and non-food items to the families affected by recent typhoons in the country.
The relief goods arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 Friday aboard a Qatar Amiri Boeing C-17 military plane.
Qatar Embassy officials Ali Abdulla Al-Abdulla, Second Secretary, and Mohammed Yousef Al-Malki, Third Secretary, received the relief goods.
These were transferred to the Philippine Red Cross headquarters in Mandaluyong City for the formal turnover.
"It is worth noting that five typhoons struck the Republic of the Philippines over a period of four weeks, including typhoon ‘Vamco’ (‘Ulysses’) and ‘Goni’ (‘Rolly’)," which is the strongest in the world this year so far," Embassy of the State of Qatar said.
It added that the Qatar Fund for Development provides immediate assistance to the Philippines by sending urgent relief aid through an air bridge airlift from the Qatar Armed Forces.
"His Excellency Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Kuwari, Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development, said that this aid arrived due to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, 'May the Almighty Allah protect him,' and it comes within the framework of the Qatari extended bid to help friends in the Republic of the Philippines," the embassy added.
