Sexual harassment in public spaces—here's how this beauty brand is fighting against it

Beauty brand L'Oréal Paris has been empowering women with its tagline, "Because you're worth it," for years, and now the company is advancing its message.

The brand has launched an awareness campaign "Stand Up" against street harassment, in partnership with grassroots organization Hollaback.

A survey conducted by L'Oréal Paris showed that sexual harassment in public spaces was identified as the number one issue women are facing across the world. So starting now and through 2021, the brand, together with Hollaback, will develop educational resources on Stand Up's website.

One program included in the website is the 5D methodology (Direct, Distract, Delegate, Document, and Delay), which can help both men and women to safely intervene if they witness or experience harassment.

"We see it happen, but uncomfortably look away. We feel the urge to speak up, but stay cautiously silent. We all want to do something about it, but don’t know what. Or worse, we end up thinking it’s 'not a big deal,'" L'Oréal Paris said in the website. "Street harassment is always a big deal. And now, we have what it takes to stand up to it. It’s always worth it."
