The search and rescue operation for the missing 17-year old boy who fell in the rampaging water of a spillway in Rodriguez on November 29, was called off after the victim was found dead and floating in the river more than a kilometer away from where he fell.
Rodriguez Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head, Genaro Inocentes told Manila Bulletin that the victim, Christian Lemuel Atup, was found by a scavenger in Barangay San Jose, or some 1.7 kilometers away from the Philrock spillway in Barangay San Isidro.
Atup, a resident of Hillside Phase 4 in Barangay San Rafael, Rodriguez was reportedly seen jumping off into the spillway’s water on November 29.
A search and rescue operation was launched by the
barangay and municipal rescue workers as soon as the incident was reported to authorities but their efforts resulted in the negative.
Relatives of the teenager were able to identify the cadaver as the missing boy’s because of his necklace and earrings.
