Up-and-coming Ifugao boxer Carl Jammes Martin is set to make his ring return a year after being inactive due to the current coronavirus pandemic.

The 21-year-old Martin will face battle-tested Richard Rosales in a 10-round non-title bantamweight fight on December 18 at the International Pharmaceutical, Inc. compound in Cebu City.

This will be Martin’s first fight since scoring a 3rd round TKO win over another veteran international campaigner Philip Luis Cuerdo on December 21 last year in Manila.

“Masaya po ako dahil makakalaban na ulit ako pero may concern din dahil isang taon po ako na walang laban dahil sa pandemic. Tuloy-tuloy naman ang ensayo ko pero iba pa din ang may laban talaga,” said Martin who is unbeaten in 15 fights, 14 ended via knockout.

While Rosales is about three-inch shorter than Martin, the Talibon-native combatant assures this will not serve as a disadvantage for him come fight night.

“Kung robot siya, hindi ko siya masasaktan. Pero kung tao yan, masasaktan ko yan basta matamaan ko lalo na kapag walang takbuhan, suntukan talaga,” said Rosales who has compiled a 14-13-2 win-loss-draw tally, eight via stoppage.

Martin said this will probably be his toughest fight yet as he will be undergoing a 15-day quarantine procedure since his bout opposite Rosales will be part of Omega Sports’ historic second boxing bubble event.

“Si Rosales po, may experience na sa ganitong event kasi lumaban siya sa unang bubble ng Omega noong October. First time ko ito na sa crucial part ng training ko, masyadong limitado ang magiging galaw ko dahil naka-quarantine kami,” said Martin.

The Hingyon, Ifugao native Martin was referring to Rosales’ October 7 bout where he lost to world-rated Christian Araneta in their 10-round tussle also held inside the IPI Compound.

“Basta suntok lang ako hanggang kaya. Walang problema kung malaki siya basta sagasaan ko talaga yan,” said a seemingly confident Rosales.
