Senator Sherwin T. Gatchalian on Monday said he is not pushing for full opening of classes but “we have to do it localized and we do it limited.”

Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate basic education committee, said that some of the local government units (LGUs), in their workshops, requested it.

“They’re not requesting for five days a week. They are requesting for one day in a week, or maybe a few hours in a day. Ang importante lang yung bata magkaroon ng engagement because without engagement hindi siya matuto (What is important is for the learner to have an engagement because without engagement, they will not learn),” he said.

Gatchalian said his appeal is:

·         Look for innovations, solutions to engage students.

·         Look for best practices… ang dami kong nakita sa iba’t-ibang bansa.

·         Our teachers should continuously be supported with health support.

“Whether may (there is) face-to-face or wala (none). Because the teachers are the frontliners,” he added.
