In observance of Bonifacio Day, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said he hopes Filipinos would be inspired by the father of the Philippine revolution in overcoming the coronavirus pandemic and the country’s other problems.

“May his bravery and courage that helped to awaken in our forefathers the desire for liberation and self-determination, be a source of inspiration to all Filipinos as well as be a source of strength as we continue to face societal ills and challenges such as poverty, insurgency, terrorism, corruption, illegal drugs, and recently, the COVID-19 pandemic,” Andanar said.

“Let us all emulate his nationalism and aspire to be modern heroes as we work together towards overcoming these societal problems,” he said.

The Palace official issued the call in observance of the 157th birth anniversary of Bonifacio, who led the revolutionary movement to fight the Spanish colonial rulers.

In paying tribute to the father of Philippine revolution, Andanar urged the nation to remember the fervor of Bonifacio and other heroes in pursuit of the country’s independence from its colonizers.

With the inspiration from Bonifacio, Andanar said he hopes the nation would be propelled towards “justice, prosperity, tranquility, comfortable life for all Filipinos, and our recovery as one nation.”

Bonifacio, who spearheaded the Katipunan revolutionary movement that fought colonial oppression, is widely esteemed as one of the national heroes honored every November 30.
