Ruby Ruiz wins Best Actress at 2020 Herat International Women’s Film Festival


Actress Ruby Ruiz won another international award for Best Actress for her performance in the 2019 Cinemalaya film “Iska”

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) congratulated Ruiz on Friday for winning the Best Actress award in this year’s 6th Herat International Women’s Festival in Afghanistan for her performance in “Iska.”

This is her third Best Actress citation for “Iska” following her wins at the 15th Harlem International Festival in New York City and 15th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.

“Iska,” directed by Theodore Boborol, follows the story of a loving, impoverished grandmother of an autistic child who loses everything, turning into someone society reckons her to be.

It also stars Soliman Cruz, Ricky Rivero, Jonic Magno, Jomari Angeles, RK Bagatsing, and Beauty Gonzalez, among others.

The Herat International Women’s Film Festival 2020 was held last Nov. 19 in Kabul City, Afghanistan.
