‘Space Sweepers’ is this year’s most awaited sci-fi thriller

K-drama meets science fiction in this upcoming film, starring Soong Joong-ki, exclusive on Netflix

Bidangil Pictures in South Korea is producing an exclusive sci-fi thriller for Netflix. Space Sweepers (Korean title: 승리호) will star Song Joong-ki and Kim Tae-Ri.

The crew of Spaceship Victory

The film is about the crew of a cosmic waste management spacecraft that discovers a humanlike robot named Dorothy.

According to an announcement from Netflix, Space Sweepers is set in the year 2092, where planet earth is nowhere near inhabitable. Song Joong-ki plays Tae-ho, a pilot who undertakes any profitable venture. Kim Tae-ri plays the role of Captain Jang, while Jin Sun-Kyu and Yoo Hai-jin play Tiger Park and Bubs, respectively.

In the film, ex-space pirate Captain Jang, ex-con spaceship engineer Tiger Park, military robot Bubs, and genius space pilot Tae-ho embark on a journey aboard Spaceship Victory, living off salvaging space debris.

Song Joong-ki as Tae-ho

After successfully snatching a crashed space shuttle, the crew finds a seven-year-old human-like girl robot inside. They realize she (or it) is wanted by the UTS Space Guards and decide to demand ransom in exchange.

This sci-fi thriller starring Filipino-favorite Song Joong-ki will surely be an action packed film. In South Korea, in fact, Space Sweepers has been creating a huge buzz.

Will the story be a Korean version of Guardians of the Galaxy? Will this be one of the best films of the year?

We’ll find out once we catch Space Sweepers on Netflix this December.
