Makati LGU sends more help to typhoon-ravaged Marikina

The local government unit (LGU) of Makati City has dispatched additional modern rescue equipment to Marikina City to help out with the needs of victims of Typhoon “Ulysses.”

This was after Mayor Abigail "Abby" Binay ordered the deployment to help Marikina cope with the devastation of Typhoon Ulysses.

Aside from the mobile kitchen and water tanker delivered to Marikina City Hall last Monday, the LGU said it has also sent another tanker, a penetrator fire truck, pick-up truck RV-13, and mobile water filtration system on Tuesday.

On November 12, Binay also mobilized a rescue team of nine personnel with two rescue boats, a search and rescue vehicle, and an ambulance to Barangay San Roque to help in the evacuation of Marikina residents.

“We understand that our beleaguered neighbor needs all the help it can get to cope with this new crisis. We hope that in our own small way, we can ease the day-to-day lives of the typhoon victims while they are in temporary shelters,” she said in a statement.

According to her, the mobile kitchen is ideal for mass food production as it allows for the preparation of at least 800 meals per operation. With its weather protection features and built-in chimney, it also ensures food safety and quality, she added.

Binay said that the mobile water filtration system, which is capable of turning ordinary water into safe, clean and potable drinking water, will help ensure ample supply of drinking water for evacuees and other residents, including children and the elderly.

The water tankers will also be useful in the distribution of water to areas where water supply has been cut, the city government said.

Among the cities of Metro Manila, Marikina was severely battered by Typhoon Ulysses, causing massive flooding all over the city.
