The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-National Secretariat for Social Action (NASSA)/Caritas Philippines has appealed to the faithful to help in whatever way they can the typhoon survivors whose lives were severely affected by the series of cyclones that hit the country.
Kidapawan Bishop Jose Collin Bagaforo, national director of the CBCP-NASSA/Caritas Philippines, called on the faithful “to be in solidarity with our suffering brothers and sisters whose lives were affected by typhoons Quinta, Rolly, Siony, and Ulysses.”
“Calling all the faithful to please share your little treasure for our ‘kababayan’ victims of the series of typhoons,” Bagaforo said over Radio Veritas. “Let is support Alay Kapwa Sunday today, November 15. There will be a second collection for the calamity survivors,” he said.
Bishop Bagaforo called on all dioceses and archdioceses around the country to hold second collections today for the typhoon victims. Today’s Alay Kapwa Sunday coincides with the Church’s observance of the World Day of the Poor.
The Church leader, likewise, appealed to corporate and business groups to provide assistance to the thousands of typhoon survivors.
“We are also knocking on the doors of our corporate and business institutions. We need your help,” Bagaforo said.
“All the social action departments in the dioceses affected by the typhoons are now assessing the damages and identifying the urgent needs of our ‘kababayans.’ NASSA is coordinating all our relief and rehab efforts to all the affected dioceses. More than P1 million committed funds from NASSA and Caritas Manila will be sent to the severely affected dioceses,” Bagaforo said.
