Man killed by landslide in Benguet


LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A 30 year old man was buried alive by a landslide caused by heavy rains brought about by typhoon Ulysses in Buguias, Benguet, Thursday morning.

Police Col. Elmer Ragay, provincial director of the Benguet Provincial Police Office, identified the victim as Malner Palonan Damilo, 30, married and resident of Malmalbeng, Sebang, Buguias, Benguet.

He was the second fatality in the province at the height of “Ulysses”.

Ragay said, the victim went to attend to his vehicle at about 11 a.m. at the height of a heavy downpour when a huge landslide occurred, burying him under tons of soil and rocks.

Responding residents tried to rescue him, and, after four hours, they were able to find Damilo.

They rescued him to the Lutheran Hospital in Abatan, Buguias, but he was declared dead on-arrival by the attending physician.

In the town of Atok, a farmer identified as Felix Menis Boguite, 60,single, farmer and resident of Talete, Busoc, Poblacion, Atok, Benguet, was killed after bamboos fell on his shanty at the height of typhoon Ulysses at 4 a.m., Thursday.
